Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged his British counterpart Boris Johnson to remove Pakistan from his country’s “Red List”. The development comes after PM Imran received a telephone call from British Premier Johnson on Tuesday wherein both the leaders discussed the prevailing situation in Afghanistan and the bilateral issues. The British government placed Pakistan and India on the red list on April 2 and 19, respectively. However, in an updated list, the UK government moved other countries including India, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE to the amber list. “In the bilateral context, the prime minister highlighted the extensive measures taken by Pakistan to contain the Covid-19, noted that the relevant data had been shared with the UK side, and called for the removal of Pakistan from the Red List, said a statement issued by the PM Office. PM Imran underscored the paramount importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan. He also stressed that ensuring safety, security and respect for the rights of all Afghans was critically important. He highlighted the positive role of Pakistan in facilitating evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organisations and others from Afghanistan. The two premiers agreed to remain in contact with respect to the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Separately, PM Imran received a telephone call from Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen and the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan. PM Imran shared Pakistan’s perspective, emphasising the importance of ensuring safety and security as well as the protection of rights of all Afghans. He also underscored the importance of working out an inclusive political settlement. PM Imran highlighted Pakistan’s facilitating role in the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organizations and others from Afghanistan, as requested. “The Prime Minister of Denmark thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for Pakistan’s support and assistance in their evacuation endeavours,” read the PM Office communiqué.
