The residents of the federal capital on Sunday complained and demanded of the authorities that action be taken against amateur drivers, causing a constant nuisance, especially during Sehr and Iftar. They urged the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to crackdown on such elements to avoid mishaps on commercial roads and avenues. Amateur drivers are roaming freely on the roads and posing a serious threat to the lives of other commuters, Farhan Ahmed. "How can a young boy without a driving licence be allowed to drive on the roads of Islamabad," he questioned, adding that action must be taken against parents who are not concerned about the safety of their children. Read more: Challan books of 27 wardens sealed in Rawalpindi Naveed Ahmed, a resident of Sector G-7/4 said such drivers were not aware of traffic rules nor did they care, which eventually made the roads dangerous for other motorists. He called for urgent steps to regulate traffic in the city. Traffic police must take strict action against underage drivers who are creating problems for the citizens, said Umer a senior citizen. "Police should call their parents and warn them not to give vehicles to their children," he opined. Upon being contacted, an ITP spokesperson said special squads have been constituted to take action against underage drivers and motorcyclists not using helmets.
