NCC reviews K-P uplift projects costing $3.1b

The National Coordination Committee on foreign-funded projects reviewed the progress of the on-going 30 projects of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government amounting to $3.1 billion. According to a press release by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, these projects include transport and communication, energy, rural development, education and training apart from water and irrigation system in the province. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar chaired the meeting of the National Coordination Committee on foreign-funded projects at Ministry of Economic Affairs. It is pertinent to note that all these projects are being implemented with the help of development partners like World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID, China, UK, Saudi Fund, Germany, and France. Read More: Rs18b released for uplift schemes During the meeting, the economic affairs minister said that the overall performance of the Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is satisfactory in the execution of the aforementioned foreign-funded projects. He further highlighted that the incumbent government is focusing on the construction of hydel power projects, roads and infrastructure, social sector development which would help to stabilise the economy of Pakistan. Federal Minister Bakhtiar also directed the line departments of the K-P government to fast track implementation and set timelines for the expeditious execution of these projects including Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit Corridor project, Municipal Service Programme, Gomal Zam Command Area Development project and Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of completely damaged government schools at Bara to facilitate the public. The meeting was attended by deputy chairman of the Planning Commission of Pakistan, Economic Affairs Division secretary, additional chief secretary, representative of the prime minister’s office, Finance Division and Provincial P/D and line Departments and Board of Revenues were also present at the session.
