Experts weigh in on climate change issue

Integrating mathematical modeling and research simulation can aide in formation of climate change related policies at national and international levels to better deal with the changing climate conditions. This was shared at an international webinar organised by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) Centre for Climate and Sustainability (CCCS) titled ‘Modeling and simulation on climate change and environmental pollution: Strengthening resilience in the Global South’ on Wednesday, a spokesperson shared. The official mentioned that multi-stakeholder partnerships, integrated approaches, mitigation and adaptation strategies were recognised as the need of the hour at the session to overcome the impacts of climate change in the Global South in terms of floods, heatwaves, food security and extreme weather conditions. Read more: COMSATS to assist with telehealth training Moderated by Commonwealth Climate Finance Hub General Manager Bilal Anwar, the webinar highlighted the role of modeling and simulations in evidence-based knowledge to formulate policies and legislation to help reduce carbon emissions and increasing adaptation efforts in the Global South. The event was held within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG13 - Climate Action) in collaboration with the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Nigeria’s and brought together intellectual inputs, ideas, experience, best practices and policy advice from Ghana, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, the official added. COMSATS Executive Director Dr S M Junaid Zaidi said that a commission under the chairmanship of the president of Ghana has been keen on the development of science and technology in the 27 member states of the commission.
